Thank You for Your Blessing

I pulled up early in front of my new favorite Thai restaurant.

As I waited for the door to open, I noticed a person on her knees in front of the restaurant. She held a few sticks of incense and seemed to be glancing at her smartphone, perhaps for the words she desired for her ceremony.

I snapped a quick picture through the dirt and reflections of my windshield. I didn’t want the moment to escape.

When I entered the restaurant, I had the privilege of meeting this chef who took time to pour her soul into blessing my food and the place where I gathered with friends. She smiled ear to ear as we visited. I thanked her for her blessing.

I’m grateful for the varied cultures and traditions that enrich my life. I’m particularly grateful on this occasion for a woman who took time to bless my food humbly and boldly in full view of whomever might pass.
