It’s Just a Conversation

Kate came during a difficult time and said she wished she could talk to her mother who had passed.

When I suggested she could, she expressed reluctance. I asked why.

“Because I’m only supposed to pray to God,” she said.

“If your mother were still alive, you’d drive to her home and have a talk to her, right?” I said.

“Yes.”

“Would you be praying to her?” I said.

“No, of course not.”

“Would you be worshipping her?”

“No.”

“You’d just be talking to her and receiving her advice and comfort.”

“Exactly.”

“Do that,” I said. “There’s nothing wrong with it.”

Just because your loved one is no longer in flesh doesn’t mean you can’t speak with them or receive their comfort and counsel.
