Do the Work

I study wayshowers because they drop wisdom that helps me along my path. For example, ancient texts say Isaiah ascended to the seventh heaven, passing glorious beings who were stripped of flesh and clothed in garments of the upper world. Isaiah’s guide adorned him in sacred vestments and enabled him to commune with Deity (The Ascension of Isaiah).

Isaiah invited others to ascend and instructed them how to commune with heaven themselves. Here are three examples.

Through “the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, your teachers will be hidden no more; with your own eyes you will see them. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’” (Isa. 30:20-21).

Through fasting “your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear.” Then, at your call, the Divine will appear and say, “Here am I” (Isa. 58:8-9).

When we step away from immediate gratification and the distractions of the physical realm—and that looks differently for many depending on their faith traditions—“The Lord your God will lead you and protect you on every side” (Isa. 52:12).

I am grateful for truth-speakers and wayshowers. Still, there are no shortcuts. The work is mine to do.
