Communion with Mother Earth
I ate lunch at Casa de Luz Village and Community Wellness Center on Toomey Road in Austin, Texas.
Once a meatpacking plant, the nonprofit community center now includes open spaces, shops, classes in yoga, meditation, and healthy lifestyle education.
I met Wayo (Eduardo), the Mexico native largely responsible for creating and maintaining the macrobiotic-based organic, vegan, gluten free, refined oil & sugar free menu.
As he said, “Nature is so smart it puts the medicine inside the food.” His affability and enthusiasm were infectious.
The food was beautifully prepared and delicious, but it felt like more than that. It felt like wholeness amid a world of distractions.
“We’re having holy communion with Mother Earth,” Wayo said, with a broad smile and beautiful accent.
I nodded and took another bite.
