Self-Care is not Selfish

I often begin my day by centering and asking, “What should I do today?

One day, my messenger said, “Tell your wife you love her.”

For many, that sounds too small and simple, but for me, someone who has always struggled with expressing love, it was significant. I honored the direction. As it turned out, it was just what she needed that day.

On another day, my messenger said, “Enjoy this day which I have given you.”

I was taken aback. It felt a bit selfish, especially when I could be doing for others instead. I was given to understand that self-care is not selfish. It’s preparation, restoration, reward, release, rejuvenation, reconnection and realignment, among other things. You deserve self-care. It’s essential and important, and enables you to help others.

Self-care is self-realization. It’s coming to know one’s own divinity. It’s learning to just BE.
