Beyond the Veil

Veiling one’s face is a powerful act of ascension.

Some suggest veils devalue and demean women, and that may be true in the minds of oppressors. Certainly, no woman should be forced to veil her face. That situation, however, is not the substance of this post.

When done voluntary and with understanding, veiling one’s face is an empowering, ennobling, enlightening act with oft-missed symbolism.

The separation between physical and spiritual is often referred to as a veil. To come into the presence of the Divine, or to communicate with the Divine, one steps through a veil. Indeed, apocalypse, the Greek word for revelation, literally means to unveil.

I labor to draw back the veil and come into the presence of the Divine. When I see a woman already on the other side of a veil, I ask myself, “Which side of the veil is she on?” I see her already in the presence of the Divine.

When a woman consciously and intentionally veils her face, she honors her innately exalted nature and steps into her personal Holy of Holies. She places herself on the other side of the veil and into the presence of the Divine.
