It’s Not About Rules
Louise had been a nurse for years when Bob rolled into her ER in the throes of a heart attack. As the team administered chest compressions, Louise looked across the room and saw Bob’s essence or spirit in the corner calmly observing attempts to resuscitate him.
The team managed to cram Bob’s soul back into his body and Louise visited him in his hospital room days later. They became friends and discussed his out-of-body experience. She shared their exchange with me.
Bob was a by-the-book guy, given to obeying rules. Some might call him pedantic. In his religion, he labored to check every box, dot every i, and cross every t.
Outside his body, Bob communed with a Divine Being. He pled his case, explaining he’d read the sacred texts and honored every directive and prohibition.
“I obeyed every rule,” he said.
“It’s not about rules,” the Divine Being said. “It’s about love.”
Bob’s guide sent him back to share his story. When he shared, his religious community distanced themselves, but Louise visited him often. Every time he saw her, he reiterated his story and wept with gratitude for what he’d learned.
