I Love You

I found a note on the mirror this morning.

“I love you.”

That’s all it said. That’s all I needed.

Sometime ago, in my morning routine, I asked what I should do that day. The answer came clearly: “Tell your wife you love her.” I did. I realized from our subsequent conversation it was what she’d needed to hear that day.

Love is often what we need to hear and feel. It’s usually what we need to say and express. It’s virtually always the right message.

I had a hard time saying, “I love you,” for many years, even to those whom I deeply loved. Sometimes wounds make it hard to love, or hard to express it. I’d thought I had to reserve that preeminent word for special people and special occasions.

I’ve since learned, love is not limited or constrained. Love doesn’t diminish when I share it, express it, or give it away. The more love I give, the more I have, for myself and for others, and the more I receive.

Tell someone today, “I love you.”

If you haven’t heard it from someone else today, receive it from me.

I Love You
