Past Feeling?
Science generally likes things black and white, logical, predictable, and reproducible. Feelings take a backseat to evidence demonstrable by acceptable methods.
Academia can move us away from trusting our feelings. Some scientists think it’s an asset to be past feeling. If we are past feeling, however, we cut ourselves off from our greatest source of understanding.
I was trained in science. I respect and trust science, but I also honor my feelings. Sometimes feelings told me what science could not.
If we trust only our physical senses—only what we can calculate, reproduce, and verify—we’ll grasp only physical things. Feelings, on the other hand, are the language of the soul. Feelings spark transformation and commitment. Feelings change lives, communities, countries, and the world. It takes great courage and independence to trust, talk about, and act upon one’s feelings.
You don’t have to move past feeling to honor science. Never move past feeling.
