Live Now

The moment the nurse lowered the newborn into my arms, my world stopped. Nothing in the past or future existed. Only the present. Only that instant. It happened with my children and my grandchildren. It happened the day I married Sheila and on the days I danced with my daughters at their weddings.

Living in the now is not a cliché. Think about a sacred experience in your life when the only thing that existed or mattered was the present moment.

We can remember past spiritual experiences and be grateful. We can anticipate future spiritual experiences and open ourselves to them. It is important, however, to recognize that spiritual experiences do not exist in the past or future. We only experience God in the present—in the now. To experience the Divine, we have to do it in the present.

And the only way to experience our highest, most authentic selves, is in the present.

Live now.
